This month saw a wonderfully creative, innovative Parent Crafternoon all about Twitter and Online Safety. Twitter is an increasingly useful tool enabling us as a school to reach out to parents and community in an immediate way. However, Social Media can feel daunting and also poses risks and challenges. There was a great attendance from parents keen to find out more and explore the differences and similarities between web content and Twitter, and there was some great discussion. We also explored Online Gaming with special reference to the excellent parent resource ‘Commonsensemedia.org’. A ‘Family Agreement’ on internet usage is now available for parents to complete with their child. It is an excellent tool for maintaining an open and honest conversation about who uses the internet, for what and how often. This template is taken from the excellent http://www.childnet.com/ website which also holds lots of other great parent resources and information.
